Day One in Paris and we walked over to Notre Dame and caught the Hop on/ Hop off bus and started a tour. Got off at the Place de Concorde and walked the entire 2kms of the Champs élysées up to the Arc de Triumphe, all of us sneezing violently because of the pollen from the trees!
Picked up the tour again and rode around to the Eiffel Tower and got off to find about a million tourists there, so got back on and rode some more! Swapped to another tour and saw many more landmarks before rain and freezing cold drove us back to the hotel for a hot shower, after which we wandered around a bit in the local area to find a a lovely little restaurant that had a fixed price menu which include escargot!
Great day first up!
Day Two saw us doing more sightseeing and then we caught the Metro over to Invalides where we had to connect with our guide for a tour of the Palace of Versailles Gardens. There were about 16 of us on the walking tour and we caught the train out to Versailles - about an hour - and then waited patiently for a couple of late comers before joining the masses and entering the Gardens.
The Gardens are huge - cover 800 hectares - and it would take forever to see them all (they hire golf carts to get about on) but we saw the main parts around the Palace and saw all the fountains. Disappointingly, there were no flowers planted - summer ones not in the ground yet!
We were supposed to do a Palace tour as well, but it was after 5pm by this time and we'd had enough, so we caught the train back home.
Day Three and we walked for miles! Did the Luxembourg Gardens, along the River Seine and then found a shop and bought up a picnic which we took over to the grassed area in front of the Eiffel Tower! Made a baguette each and had a wine or 2 out of plastic cups in the glorious sunshine - took a while to find a patch of grass there were so many people there, but it didn't matter, we had plenty of fun!
Once again in the evening we had drinkies at Latin St Germain, and then dined at another local restaurant.
