Had a nice sleep in this morning and then fired up the SUV and headed west for the coast. The main drag through Kissimmee was lined with hotels, motels, gift shops and take out places for about 15 miles before we came across open country which we saw all the way to the town of Melbourne. There we saw the Indian River inlet (or estuary or whatever you would call the area of water) which is separated from the ocean by a narrow strip of land joined by numerous large bridges.
We continued on over a bridge and stopped at the Atlantic Ocean where we took a few photos (first time we had seen the Atlantic) and then drove down the spit to look at a few of the homes along there.
There were a few flash one but mostly they were holiday types places such as we would find between Busselton and Dunsborough.
We drove back across the bridge and then headed south along the Indian River waterway and stopped for lunch at Rosedale before continuing on south to Fort Pierce. There were numerous settlements along the way including fishing towns and more affluent marinas.
From Fort Pierce we headed back west to Okeechobee and the north back to Kissimmee, passing through a lot of very low lying land (Okeechobee is only 14 feet above sea level) and also some very nice ranches and a couple of huge dairy farms.
The drive was very enjoyable and we saw a lot of Florida that most tourists don't and we saw more of the natural region.
