Grabbed a coffee at a Starbucks and after a quick look around this little town we hit I84E. After passing through some very uninspiring country we suddenly drove into a magnificent belt of agriculture - cereal crops, hay crops, lucerne, fruit and veggies - you name it, it was grown on an enormous scale! There were machinery dealers all along the freeway, selling big tractors, trucks and other implements, a very prosperous area.
Just before Ontario we put our watches forward an hour to "Mountain Time" and then we were over the state border and into Idaho! Lo and behold in addition to all the produce grown before, the humble potato was now number one!! The "Potato State" was living up to its name!
We stopped in Twin Falls for fuel and a late lunch - now that we had lost an hour - and had a look at the magnificent gorge that the Snake River had cut through the landscape. There was even a golf course that spread eagled the river, deep down at the base of the gorge!
Twin Falls is a lovely town and we stopped at the tree lined mall in the town centre for a sandwich, then had a quick look at the Shoshone Falls before hitting the Freeway again. The falls were not flowing very fast as the local irrigation system had depleted the rivers volume, but I'll bet that in winter it is a fair sight! Right next to the Falls was the spot in the Gorge that Evil Knievel jumped across on his motorcycle!
We turned onto I86E and continued on through the grand farmland, passed the American Falls Dam and then turned north on I15N and made our way to Idaho Falls for a stop. We had booked rooms at the Sleep Inn this morning as with all the holiday makers and National Park visitors the accommodations are mostly booked out. As usual the Sleep Inn was ultra comfy and after unloading our stuff we drove off into town and did a spot of shopping before having dinner. The lost hour made it a late night, and all the driving must have got to Greg because when we stopped to get some fuel he realised he had left his travel card at the restaurant! So back we went and retrieved it - the waitress was trying to remember where we were staying to drop it off!!! Luckily we stopped for the fuel or else it would have been well on the way to Yellowstone before he missed it.
So tomorrow it is off to Yellowstone National Park, we want to get there reasonably early to beat the hordes of visitors so we will get up a little earlier
