Well today we awoke very late - about 8.45am - to a much warmer, but otherwise unchanged "grotty" unit, all feeling a little better after a good nights sleep but with Mumsie still adamant that she wasn't "spending Xmas in this dump!!!!!!" So after breakfast we headed off to the Eastern Market Metro station and went into the downtown part of Washington getting off at McPherson Square and walking a couple of hundred metres to the Homewood Suites on Massachuset...

Thursday morning saw us up at 5am and getting a taxi to the airport for our flight to Washington DC. There was a big crowd McCarran Airport but a well organised security check  system saw us through in no time and on the tram to our departure gate!We grabbed a coffee and boarded our United Airlines A320, taking off right on time and heading eastwards. United is a "no frills" airline, but the service was excellent with plenty complimentary cool drinks, all sorts ...

FRIDAYGot set for a big day of touring the nations Capital - caught a taxi a short distance to the local Metro Station and then took the subway into central Washington. We bought an all day trolley bus pass and proceeded to do a loop taking in the major sights. The city was packed with everyday workers and each stop the bus made was packed out - just so many tourists!!! There was a brain overload of things to gawk at - White House, Capitol Building, Union Station...

Drove up to the look out on the big hill in Roanoke this morning and had a look at the huge star built on top as well as the view over the city...                         Then hit the road and drove along US81 all the way to Washington DC.                                                    We stuck to the major road despite the traffic to save time and the views along the freeway were great. ...
