Off at 9 this morning heading for Camaguey inland through the Valley of the Sugar Mills (world heritage) and quite bit of varied countryside to Sancti Spiritus then down to Camaguey. We were going to tour the sugar mill valley while in Trinidad but the steam train was not working and we didn't get around to organizing other transport - wish I had seeing it now as we drive through - maybe next time ?!?!
In Camaguey by 2pm, old hotel with basic but adequate room. On our floor there is a big verandah with large shutter doors open to the street making for very breezy place to sit and look out over the city. Camaguey is a much larger city but still easy to walk around due to lack of cars and lots of pedestrian only streets as well. Again a mix of derelict buildings left to decay and grand colonial buildings that have been beautifully restored plus some more modernized stores and buildings.
The Ballet tonight (yes you heard right and I am allowed in shorts - didn't bring any longs) - $5 each to see the world renowned Cuban Ballet of Camaguey. Well it turns out it was the ballet's night off so we were treated to a gay cabaret of drag queens miming Spanish songs to the delight of a full theatre of mainly gay couples and groups - we were even given free condom and vaseline sample packs on the way in! As I said before every day brings a new adventure in Cuba!
