Extended our trip to Rotorua for a special chance to go on a canopy tour (thanks Gail and Steve). Lilly was somewhat reluctant to get up at 6:50 -"I don't want to go". Once we were in the amazingly lush virgin forest on her first zip line she quickly changed her mind. Two and a half hours of clambering along swinging bridges, up steps and across many zip lines in the tree tops was an amazing experience.
Then we drove over to Waitomo to learn almost everything there is to know about glow worms which turn out to be pretty cool little larva and generate a 'night sky' effect in the cave. Really took me back to my old days as a caver - the Waitomo caves weren't too dissimilar to the marble arch caves where I did my phd research but then I didn't d I the tourist tour. Lilly was scared in the dark but enjoyed looking at the glow worms traps and formations. Still so much to see but our time in north island is disappearing fast. Starting to plan our route to Wellington to get the ferry.
