Cindy Aserkoff's Travels
Today was a long bus ride from phnom penh to Siem reap. In OAT speak it is a day of learning and discovery. We stopped along the roadside to see a wedding that was happening. We were actually invited to join the party but we had to be on our way. Our next stop was small village where they specialize in selling tarantulas as a delicacy. People got to hold them, including Robert. One of our fellow travelers then was instructed on how to fry the tarantula in oil. When they were finished, we sampled the legs. They were actually quite good. Then our unexpected adventure began. After a toilet stop, there was a hydraulic system problem with our bus. Our guides tried a variety of things but the only option was to go 15 miles in a tuk tuk that was used mainly for short distances for the locals. Our tuk tuk had to make a stop to deliver many bunches of bananas. It was a long ride on a hard seat going about 20 mph. We eventually got to lunch where we waited for about an hour for a replacement bus. Finally we were on our way and arrived in Siem reap about 5 pm. Tomorrow we tour angkor wat the whole day.
