Cindy Aserkoff's Travels
Today was an extremely emotional morning. We visited one of the killing fields from from the Khmer rouge, pol pot regime. Our guide had personal experience from her mother who was forced to evacuate pnom penh. The atrocities we heard about left us all in tears. The hopelessness and and the inability to understand how one human being could do such things to another human being just makes you feel awful. No detail here about what we heard. We met one of 7 survivors from the prison who shared his story with tears and great emotion. Our guide spoke to us of the danger she feels she is in because of what she believes. Again too much to explain here but suffice it to say this is the most communist place we have been. Such a contrast because the city is modern and seems to be thriving. The afternoon was better with a short tour of the national museum followed by a trip to the 'russian market'. Lots of stuff for cheap. Tonight we will take the tuk tuk to a French restaurant to help a fellow traveler celebrate her birthday. Tomorrow we leave for Siem reap, our last stop before returning home.
