Today we went on a tasting tour of some of Perth's best producers of local food and wine. We started off by heading to the Guildford visitor centre where we picked up a map for the trail, as well as almost every other leaflet they had about WA for our road trip, and then proceeded to get lost on our way to the start of the trail, despite the lady at the TIC assuring us that it was very well sign posted! When we finally got on the right road, we headed straight to a chocolate shop, Whistlers Chocolate Shop, for lunch, and unfortunately didn't eat any chocolate as they didn't have any free tasters! Next we hit up Twin Hills Winery, where they did offer us free tasters of any wine we chose! We didn't have too many though as Joel was driving and I didn't want to drink on my own too much. We then went to the House of Honey, where there was a whole range of different honeys to taste (all very delicous, and one has healing properties, as good or better than the expensive Manuca honey that you can get from New Zealand, the WA one is called Jarrah honey), as well as honey flavoured sparkling water and honey ice cream. We definitely had our daily sugar allowance there! After filling up on honey we drove around the valley, which is really green and full of vineyards, it reminded us a little of the vineyards around Joel's parents house in France. We stopped off for refreshments at Yahava Koffeeworks, where we got to taste 5 different coffees (including a rainforest alliance one, an iced coffee and a cold drip coffee) and eat chocolate covered coffee beans for free! We also had a lesson about different coffee beans, the roasting process and how to taste coffee professionally, it was really interesting and the coffee tasted great too. Finally we went across the road to the Margarent River Chocolate Company, where we tasted some of their free samples, but didn't buy anything because it would have melted in the car (it's been around 34 degrees here today). On the way home we got a little lost again, but ended up driving to a really nice beach a little north of where we are staying, not a bad diverson at all. We won't mind getting a bit lost in the future if we end up finding places as nice as this!
