We left the town of Margaret River and drove about 40 minutes north to the town of Busselton, still in the MR region but on the Geographe Bay coast. We found a nice campsiste by the beach and even got a free upgrade to a powered site which was good. For the first afternoon we wandered around the town and there was quite a lot going on, lots of shops and cafes, and they were also setting up for an Iron Man triathlon event at the weekend - they had a really big athletes villlage which we had a look around, it's not something either of us would want to do - 4km swim followed by a 180km bike ride followed by a 40km run! It was good to look around the event though. Afterwards we took a train ride along the Busselton Jetty, the largest timber jetty in the Southern Hemisphere - it's 1.8km long so we were glad not to be walking! At the end of the jetty we had a guided tour around the Underwater Observatory, we saw loads of fish and it was nice not to have to be diving to see them for once - a lot cheaper as well! The next day we drove out to Yallingup on the coast to watch some of the Australian Junior Surfing Titles competition - it's a national competition for the best young surfers in Australia and they were really good, especially the Under 14 boys that we saw! The waves were really big and they did lots of tricks, it was really impressive to watch. Then we drove down to Dunsborough, another small town along the coast, where we went to a restaurant for lunch - they had lots of shops and cafes to look around as well. Later on we went back in to Busselton and had another look around the Iron Man event, there were lots more people around and lots of merchandise stalls. On our last day in the region the sun finally came out, 27 degrees and sunny, the perfect Aussie day! We went out to Cape Naturaliste to have a look at the lighthouse, which was interesting but not as impressive as the one at Cape Leeuwin, then we drove down to have a look at Sugarloaf Rock which had great views over the spectacular coastline. We then went to have a look at Bunker Bay, which was a really pretty beach, before heading into Dunsborough again for lunch at a nice cafe. We spent the rest of the afternoon on the beach across the road from our campsite, the weather was perfect and the sea was really warm when we went in for a swim - about 20 degrees and it's only the beginning of summer, it should get a lot warmer hopefully!
