Day 13- Venice here we go!!
Train/tent fiasco- So when we went to book our seats on an overnight train in Vienna to Venice we found out that that train was booked and we had to get an earlier one. So we just booked it and thought "Och, we will get in at about 5/6ish and we can hang about till resteruants open" but no.. This train arrived in Venice at 2.50am. So we decided that we better book an extra night at the place we were due to stay at and just check in really late. They only had a tent left so we were tenting it. After a 7 hour train journey with an old Italian couple who spoke no English and a very chatty Italian guy, I was very tired. Becca managed to steal an hour of sleep but I was so uncomfy. We arrived in Venice train station (total dive btw) and it was closed and we appeared to be stuck on the platform. We figured it out eventually and had to go ask a hotel to phone us a taxi. We did in the process meet some lovely travellers and some what teamed up in the late night madness. They were really cool and the guy knew his music so I was chuffed. It's a shame we didn't get their names cause they said they were keen to come to Scotland and I would have easy showed them up north or Glasgow! We got to the campsite and shown our tent which had actual beds!!! Rock and roll eh?! Haha!
First day in Venice- we woke up and checked out our tent to then check back into the challet/hut we had booked previous. We ended up hanging about and sunbathing and having some lunch. There's a lidl right next to the campsite which is super cheap thank goodness cause the campsite is a total rip off for food and stuff. €2 for 24 hours of wifi.. Scam!! I'm also fed up paying to pee.. Like everywhere charges you to pee. What is up with that?! Just as we were away to leave, thunder and lightning started and then torrential rain! Was insane! Becca has a hilarious video of us trying to run to the toilets through the rain! Anyway, we then caught the bus into Venice! I knew that Venice was all water based but I didn't realise that no traffic was allowed on the island. It's shame because we weren't that impressed to begin with due to everyone hyping it up. We also soon realised that Venice is thee most confusing city ever.. And it's full of tourists. Yuck! We have came to hate busy places with people, stupid really cause we have hut every capital city in every country we have been in. Haha! We wandered about for a while and walked the length of the main island until we got to the San Marco square. We had planned to go into the Basilica there but it had closed by that time. It's weird because the whole island seems as if it's just a tourist thing. Like there doesn't seem to be much life or normal life on the island other than visitors. We went to a resterant and got some pizza and beer which wasn't that good even though we were in Italy. We also had to pay a table charge which I was raging at. We then wandered back to the top of the island to get the bus back home. It was only about half 8 but already the island seemed dead. Back at the campsite we just chilled and played cards until we went to bed.
