Day 12- Vienna here we come!
So we slept in this morning which meant we got charged! To be honest, the long lie was worth the charge haha! The bed was very comfy considering we were in thee weirdest room ever (and we've had our fair share of weird on this trip already). So this hostel we booked looked totally dodgy. We got to the given address and went in to get our key but the guy at the front desk said we had to walk round the block to a different entrance. So here's us thinking "ooh must be a massive complex".. No no no, just a dodgy apartment at the back. Thank god we had booked a private twin room were thinking. So after getting through the main door and the apartment door we arrive in a bathroom/kitchen/corridor/living area. Okay, the shower and toilets had doors so you couldn't see but you were literally pooping in someone's front room. Then we got into the room, a treat we had been looking forward to throughout our challenging and tiring day. Well first of all, it was painted red, purple and orange. Bareable if your blind but we looked aside that as we noticed it was a double bed and Not two beds. I was wondering why we got a funny look when we checked into that room. But what's worse, the guy gave us two sets of single duvet covers/ pillow cases etc. Bloody disaster. Oh I nearly forgot, there was a glass door which went out the other side of the room which led to some sort of garden/dungeon area and the room itself had 5 walls. All in a day of Europe travelling and dodgy hostels!
Sight seeing and exploring in Vienna- Our first stop today was Belvedere Museum which I knew had the Gustav Klimt collection. I was so excited and had harped on about seeing his art the whole trip! It was very expensive to get in, well for us anyway, but so worth it. Not only is the museum building absolutely stunning but it's surrounding by these gardens and fountains. We headed straight for the Klimt area. I don't think Art has had such an effect on me as this display did this afternoon. There was many paintings we looked at, many that I have pinned up in my room but the main one I wanted to see was of course "The Kiss". It was just amazing! I nearly cried but I would have looked stupid so I left before I did. Haha! I was so happy, I spent the rest of the museum wanting to go back to that room. Anyway, in our time through the museum, we saw many Austrian painters self portraits, famous Austrian royalty portraits, baroque Austrian paintings as well as some Monet and Van Gogh.
We then went from there and jumped on a tram more into town. We aimed for a palace, I honestly couldn't tell you it's name. There are so many in Vienna and we have already seen about 12 in all the other countries we have been in. But anyway, we ended up in this palace. It's was very pretty and I have loads of pictures. We became bored pretty easily and went towards our last tourist thing to do today however we got delayed by some lovely shops. Becca got a new hat and will now not take it off. Haha! We went to the St Stephen's Cathedral which was very very beautiful! Quite similar to Notre Dame and the one we saw in Prague but less flashy. From there we decided to pretend we were rich and go into all the expensive designer shops. What glares we were getting going into Valentino and Vivienne Westwood. Haha! From there we headed back to the train station to shop a wee bit then get our over night train to Venice.
A busy day for us here, looking forward to a sleepy on the train!
