Day 17- Exploring Florence- got up today and went for a wee walk. We got to the piazza duomo first where we saw the big massive church with the red dome! It's absolutely beautiful and so detailed! The queue to get in was super long so we had a walk round it and then sat down for lunch. The hexagonal church next to it was under reconstruction so we missed out on that touristy thing unfortunately. We then headed to see a fort type building in the middle of the city where the real michaelanglo's 'david' stands. There is a museum there too but it was expensive and we weren't really that bothered. We then wanted to go up the hill and see the view of Florence. The hill was big with a lot of steps so we were chuffed to get to the top and chill on the wall on front of the beautiful church. We sat there for a while and looked down at the city. We also went round the corner a little to see the fake michaelanglo's David. On the way down, we stopped for some awesome gelato and sat in the sun on the river. We usually do more walking in the first day of a city but it was 30 degrees the whole time and was far too hot to do anything. As we were walking over the main fancy bridge in Florence we saw some signs for a Da Vinci display and headed for there. It was really cool, so it was like a museum when you went in. It described his life and showed you some of the machines he created and you could use them and play with them. Then you went through a passage where some quotes from him were painted on the walls. Then you went up into this empty church which was in total darkness except the images being projected on every wall and surface. There was music to go along with each section as well which was lovely. I had kinda missed hearing some chorale pieces since leaving uni. So we sat up the back and watched his life and life story evolve on these projections. Was a really cool way to do it! Then we headed home to do some laundry and nap before going out at night.
We headed out for some food at night and ended up getting free cocktails from the waiter. Sex on the beach ones as well so I was chuffed! I had carbonara which was really good except the bacon being really fatty and I just can't handle that. We just sat and chilled and had a drink and then went back to bed. No partying for us!!
