Day 18 - Second day in Florence- We jumped on a train to Pisa as we had to see the leaning tower of course. Pisa is really nice! Pretty buildings and nice people. We went for a cheap lunch of pizza yet again. Honestly, I will not be able to eat pizza for at least a month after I come home. We then went to see the famous tower. As we came round the corner we saw the top and how squint it was.. Like I know it's "leaning" but it's really squint. Plus there were people up the top of it which I didn't know you could do and that made it look even more lop sided. At one point me and Becca was saying that our ocd kicked in wanting the building to be straight. Haha! We had a wee walk about, took the obligatory silly picture and even ended up chatting with some lovely American guys who were doing the same. They were heading to Rome where we had just been and they had just came from Barcelona where we are going in 5 days so we swapped advice/travel deals and nice places to eat and drink. We had planned to get the 3 o'clock train back to Florence so had to run back to the train station. We did manage to pick up some lovely gelato on the way back though. Some of the best I've had- cherry and vanilla, melon and green apple!
Once we were back in Florence, we went to reserve tickets for the train to Nice but found out that it cost an extra €44 euros reservation fee. Poke that!!! So we ended up getting a plan for a different route. I also picked up another book. I'm chuffed I've gotten back into reading on this trip, I struggled to find the time this year at uni but I'm going through books super fast now. I've read Inferno and da Vinci code by Dan Brown, a crime thriller called 'Laidlaw' I think. It was on Beccas kindle and looked good. Now I've just bought Irving Welsh's new one called 'A decent ride'. They were all pretty easy reading, well except the last one because it's written in full Glaswegian of course. It's weird, I read it in my head to Frankie Boyles voice which seems to make it funnier. Haha!
Anyways, we got back to the hostel, planning to dump our stuff and head back to piazza duomo and go into the church this time however when we got into our room we had 3 new people in our dorm and ended up chatting to them. We had a lovely Canadian who had Scottish family called Zoe. She was awesome! We also met in with an Australian called Beck who was super cool. She listens to Courtney Barrnet (cool Australian artist) so more than qualifies as cool in my eyes. Haha! We also met a lovely guy called Joe who was the smiliest, giggliest person we have met on the trip yet. We were also joined by a Brazilian named Lukas who came to our little party with a 2 litre bottle of wine. He had cool tattoos and surprisingly amazing English. We ended picking up some cheap fruity beers and drinking together till nine then heading out for food. We tried to find a good club but apparently Florence didn't want us to party that night:( I had an amazing night and met some lovely people who I have offered a tour of Glasgow/buckie to if they fancied. Haha! The hangover this morning wasn't very good but worth it for the memories!
