Brid still wasn't feeling well and we were beginning to get worried she might not be able to do her diving. We jumped on the 5 hr bus from AirlieBeach to Townsville to catch the ferry to MagneticIsland. We bumped into to folk from our Whitsunday's boat at the terminal so spoke to them on the boat. I was expecting Magnetic to be some tropical island paradise and it really isn't, there's a bus route, which we used to get to our hostel, not what you usually expect of a small tropical island. We checked into the base hostel and decided to go for a wander into the main part of town to see if we could get some stuff to make Brid feel better.
Half way into town it started raining and didn't look like stopping, we were waiting in a shelter outside one of the Moke rental car places, which are weird buggy type cars things that everyone drives around on. We went into rent one but the woman wouldn't let us rent it if we stayed in base as supposedly people there damage them, so she gave us a small 4x4 instead, and it was raining anyway so at least we stayed dry.
We picked up the other 2 from the other side of the island and drove around for a wee bit, all the off-road roads were still closed after the cyclone so we couldn't go anywhere exciting. We just drove to one of the small villages and had something to eat. Brid was still feeling poop so we headed back to the hostel.
Next day and after a bit of a lie in we headed to the doctors surgery to see if he could give Brid anything for her throat, he didn't do much except write her a note recommending her not to dive but we couldn't get our money back at this point anyway so she was gonna give it a go regardless.
We then headed off to meet the couple again and walk up to some of the old WW2 defense gun look outs, it was bloody roasting but we saw some koalas along the way. We drove our mates to the ferry terminal as they were only staying one day before heading back to the hostel to attempt to cook some food in what looked like the worst kitchen ever, there was 1 spoon, 2 forks and about 3 plates!!
