We arrived in a very wet and windy Airlie Beach, we were getting the arse end of Cyclone Charlotte and the place was a wash out, allot of the Whitsundays boats weren't going so we were worried that our wouldn't go either, we still had 2 days to wait so we were hopeful it would. We couldn't do much today as the weather was really crap we just sat about the hostel and ate, we met some folk from Fraser and hung around with them for a while but people were miserable because of the weather. We went out for a drink but the rain was actually coming in the door of the pub it was so windy and we got soaked so we headed to bed where Brid met a girl who strangely had had the exact same life as her, it was so weird.
Next day and it was still raining heaps, again there wasn't much to do in Airlie Beach when the weather is rubbish so Brid posted some stuff home for folks Bdays. We did some laundry (exciting) and then headed off to bed hoping our boat would go the next day.
Next day and thank god it wasn't raining, the weather wasn't great but it was a good improvement from the previous days. We walked along to the Marina and met the other people on our boat, they all seemed really nice and luckily there weren't heaps of old farts. We got a quick brief before setting off on the boat, it was really nice, a small sail boat. We were sailing 2 mins before 2 of the girls were puking their guts over the side, one even managed to puke on the deck. It took us around 3 hrs to reach our first spot for snorkeling; it was really rough on the way out so everyone was keen to get off the boat. We didn't do any of the dives here as we knew we were going diving in couple of days anyway.
We had to wear wet suits as it was stinger season and I didn't fancy getting stung by a box jellyfish. We spotted a turtle during our snorkeling, it was just funny watching 16people chasing the turtle in the water. Later on we had a couple of drinks before heading off to bed.
Next day and we set off for Whitehaven Beach, luckily for us the sun decided to come out and it stayed out for the rest of the day. We played on the beach for ages with Frisbee's and American footballs which was good fun. We walked back to the boat and then headed to another snorkeling spot, we didn't see anything amazing here but it was good fun. Again we had another couple of drinks before skulking off to bed.
Next day and the crew blew up the kayaks and we had a kayak around the bay we were moored in, along the way we played gladiator noodle wars. Most folk lasted around 10secs although me and Brid managed to batter each other for ages, I think everyone thought we were seriously trying to hurt each other. We had a fair few goes and beating each other, and in the end I defiantly won most of them.
After this we set off sail for Airlie Beach again, we swapped E-Mails address again with a ton of folk and again arranged to meet up for some booze later on that night, on the marina we bumped into some of the folk we met on Fraser again. Back at the hostel and we had a quick shower before making our way down to the pub for a few light ales. Somehow Brid had managed to loose her voice completely at the end of the trip so she wasn't feeling well, we called it a night pretty early. Tomorrow we headed up the coast to Magnetic Island.
