We arrived in Sydney at 9am and jumped on the train to kings cross where the hostel, not knowing that king cross was hooker/pimp central. We found the hostel and checked into the sweatiest room ever, but seeing as Sydney was starting to get busy for Xmas and New Year we booked and payed for the whole week so we couldn't do a runner.
First impressions weren't good, the kitchen looked a bit dodgy and the place is 99% Germans and French. We took a walk around the surrounding area to find somewhere to get breakfast. Then we walked around the harbour area checking out the opera house and the bridge. We ended up in the city most of the day before going back to the hostel but with all the frogs and Nazi's the banter is difficult.
Today we wandered around to the botanical gardens and had a small picnic, there were tons of massive fruit bats which were a bit weird for the middle of a city. Then we walked along the harbour bridge and back to get some photos before heading back to the hostel, there was an organised hostel night out at some club which was giving out free food before a certain time in the pub upstairs, we decided to go along and try the food which was a big mistake. I had chicken curry which was awful and Brid had veggie pasta and they even messed that up. We ended up staying till about 2 and got pretty drunk, on the way home we got some pies which instantly made me sick.
Today we're meeting a couple we met in Argentina at Coogee Beach, we got there first and lay on the beach for about 30mins before heading up towards the road to meet them, it took us about 20mins of looking straight at them to realise it was them. We played with the Frisbee for ages in the water before getting some lunch and lying at the beach again for ages. Next we went for a 4dollar steak, we were expecting it to be rubbish but it was one of the best steaks I've had since being away. We had a few more drinks before moving on to another pub for a few more. Headed back to the hostel around 1 for a sweaty nights sleep.
Didn't do much today except book our Fraser island and Whitsunday's tours with the travel agency, they gave us a ton of money off and a free tour in Noosa so we were happy enough. Didn't do much that night, watched some weird film on TV with Johnny Depp.
Today we went and did a bike tour of Sydney, we arrived late and the tour almost went without us, the tour was pretty good but probably not worth the money we paid for it, although we did get to stop off at a pub half way through. Tonight we though we'd give the Nazi's and frogs a chance and stay in the hostel for a party, most of them turned out to be alright although there was a weird kiwi who kept on trying to flex his weedy arms every time he spoke to anyone. Bought another pie from the same shop and puked again, don't think I'll be going back there again.
Next day and we checked out, the couple we met offered to let us stay in there house for 2nights. We met them at Bondi Junction and went to the k-Mart to buy an airbed as they'd just moved in to their flat and didn't have much furniture. We got one on the cheap that would do us for 2 nights. We headed off to a naval base beside the harbour to meet some of Peter and Marie's friends, also the navy was putting on some Christmas show for the kids. Didn't do much that night, just phoned home and went to bed.
Next day and back at the beach to try some snorkelling, we couldn't see a thing and it was getting pretty cold so we headed back to the beach house to see if they were still giving out cheap steaks but unfortunately they only give them out on Wednesdays. We had a couple more drinks back at the flat before heading off to bed.
