From La Paz we headed up to Rurrenabaque to do a 2 night/3 day Jungle/Pampass tour.
We decided to catch the local bus up there and then book a tour when we arrived as its cheaper than booking the whole thing from La Paz. The bus journey took about 18 hours and was possibly the scariest thing I have ever done! The roads there are on the edge of massive cliff tops, they have no barriers and most of it is dirt/gravel, not even a proper road! At one point all the traffic was backed up as a massive truck was coming from the other direction so all the vehicles had to park up on the edge of the cliff to let it past...so our bus starts reversing along the cliff top and I totally panicked...going forwards is one thing but reversinfg towards the edge of a cliff was pretty hair raising!!
When we arrived it was about 5am and the tour offices didnt open until 7am so we went to the park and slept on benches for a couple of hours!! I was convinced we were going to get robbed but I´m guessing travellers must do this all the time as everything was still there when we woke!!
So after the 18 hour bus journey we booked the tour which starts with a 3 hour jeep ride over roads that consisted of rocks (very uncomfortable!!). Along the way we stop at a restaurant for lunch and as we are eating our soup one of the boys in the group found a maggot...needless to say we didnt eat anymore!! We then took a 3 hour boat ride down the river to our camp which was really cool. The river is part of the Amazon and the wildlife was amazing...we saw Caymen (type of crocodile), fish, birds and pink dolphins! Before we arrived at camp we stopped at the sunset bar for beers and to watch the sunset which was stunning!
The next day we went out hunting for Anaconda snakes! We had to do a massive trek through pampass grass and then arrived at the lake to wade through the marshes to look for snakes. I only managed to fall over once but I think Charlotte fell about 5 times!! We only found one baby snake but along the way one of the guys in the group ahead stepped on a caymen that was hiding in the marshes! After lunch we then went fishing for Piranhas..I gave up after one girl caught one and the hook had gone through its eyeball! I was happy to fish if I could throw it back in but I didnt want to make it blind! haha!
The third day was another ride along the river to look at wildlife. We saw a bird catch a massive fish and watched it for about 10 mins as it tried to swallow it whole! It eventually managed it and you could see the fish go down its throat!
The whole trip was prettuy awesome, it was like being on a wildlife show! The food they fed us was amazing and the scenery was stunning!
