Next stop after Rio was La Paz in Bolivia to meet up with the girls. I cheated somewhat for South America and decided to fly as the distance was so massive it would have taken me 5 days by bus!!
I had 4 hours changeover in Sao Paulo so I´m outside reading my book when this guy starts to try talking to me..he looks of African origin so at first I´m a bit wary but then he tells me he`s from LA and he`s here on business and his bus is late and he has a laptop case with him so I think ok, he`s just a solo traveller like me so I relax and we chat for a bit...he then asks me if we can swap contact details and I give him my email address without thinking...its not until after he´s gone that my imagination starts running away with me and I realise I`ve told him where I`m going and he can get my personal details etc from my email address and I start to panic that he`s going to plant drugs on me or something!! So I was s***ting myself for a bit but all seems fine...note to self, give out a fake email address to dodgy men!!
Anyway...when I finally get to La Paz I was amazed at how different it was compared to Rio and that the two countries are next door to each other. Everything looked a lot poorer and alot more traditional. I checked into a private room in a hostel for one night before I met up with the girls the next day and it was awesome...£8 in La Paz gets you a room with cable TV, a double bed and a single bed, ensuite and a balcony - awesome!!
In La Paz we didnt do too much as theres not much to do really. We went to the witches markets a few times which is two streets full of stalls and shops selling llama goods, woven goods, jewellery, leather goods etc and everything is sooooo cheap!! Stocked up on some scarfs, a bag and some jewellery!
