Monday 2nd July
We visited Wat Pho today, home of the largest reclining Buddha and biggest collection of Buddha images in Thailand. The grounds are full of beautiful buildings and sculptures, waterfalls and small gardens. The reclining Buddha is 46m long and 15m high and represents Buddha's death passing into Nirvana. We took a tuk tuk back to Khao San and had a look around the shops and stalls.
The following morning we went to The Grand Palace complex which houses the Royal residence, throne halls, government offices and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha (also known as Wat Phrew Kaew). We had to loan some clothes as we didn't have full length trousers on, Brad a pair of pants and Chelsea a sarong. We looked fab! The architecture is amazing although the fames Emerald Buddha was small. There's a huge shrine around it so it appears even smaller.
After some time exploring the grounds we took a taxi to Lumphini Park (named after Buddha's birthplace in Nepal) and sat in the shade by the boat pond. Bradley didn't want to rent a swan pedalo so we made our way back and grabbed a late lunch.
Then we took a taxi to Patpong night bazaar which is full of fake goods, jewelry, watches and handbags galore! We went in a bar full of half naked dancing women for a drink and then made the mistake of seeing one of the 'shows' the Patpong is famed for! I won't go into detail but let's just say that we got ripped off and it was rubbish. Lesson learned and we won't be going back!
Did nothing Wednesday daytime but met up with a couple for dinner and drinks which was fun.
