We spent the first 2days on Rainbow Beach doing pretty much nothing in preparation for our trip to Fraser Island!On Monday morning we woke early for our briefing on the jeeps and packing everything on to the roof. We were split into 3 groups of 11 and made our way down to the beach to catch the barge across to Fraser Island. 10 minutes later the fun began as we drove down the East Coast beach towards lake McKenzie. The lake was stunning with crystal clear waters and turtles swimming past us. We spent a couple of hours in the water exfoliating with the sand! Two of the groups met at Eurong campsite and we put up all the tents before tucking into lunch and the goon! We all sat around the camp playing a few games when it started raining. We hung a ground sheet above us from a jeep to a tree and stayed under there for most of the night. It rained so much we couldn't cook so went without dinner. When we went to our tents we discovered they were not water proof and we had a puddle of water in the bottom! Brad and I decided to get in the jeep and secure a place to sleep. In the morning we discovered everyone was soaked as were the tents and sleeping bags. Most people were pretty down so we packed up and head into town where we cooked up last nights dinner of steak! We decided that we wanted to stay on the island but didn't want to camp so we checked into a brand new hostel which had big luxury tents with duvets and a bathroom so no more digging holes out in the rain! In the afternoon I drove the jeep down to the shipwreck along the beach. I loved driving although it was hard in the rain because the car sank in the wet sand. When we got to the shipwreck it was raining hard so we took some quick photos (it was amazing to see it close up with the waves crashing inside it) and jumped back in the jeep for the drive home. We stopped in the pub to watch the Melbourne Cup and when we got back the girls had cooked up a stir fry that went down very well! We spent the evening in the hostel and out of the rain playing games and having a laugh.In the morning we went for a walk along the beach before our drive back to the barge and to rainbow Beach. We spent another day here doing nothing as theres nothing to do here!
