My Family Travels
Today started out in Yellowstone and ended up in Billings. Our day was super filled. Here is everything that we did.
Paint Pots - We stopped at the section of Yellowstone that had boiling mud and other sulfur-smelling phenomenon. It was so weird to see the mud bubbling. It looked exactly like paint if you would boil it. Check out the video of this. There was also this really loud hole in the ground that had steam streaming out of it. Check out the video of this as well. The noise you hear is the noise that was coming out of that hole. You could barely hear someone talking right next to you when you were by this.
Biscuit Basin - The next area we went to had several beautiful colored pools of water and geysers. I remember the Sapphire Pool from the last time I was here. The beautiful blue color of this pool is unbelievable. We also saw Jewel Geyser. I had read that this geyser goes off every 7-9 minutes. So when we were halfway around the boardwalk and saw it go off, Paul and I walked back to this geyser to watch it up close. We could stand about 5 -10 feet away from it.
Old Faithful Inn - For lunch we ate at this beautiful restaurant! We had the lunch buffet, which included trout, bison chili, and bread pudding! This was so yummy. And eating it in the very cabin themed room was a bonus. When we were almost done eating, we realized that Old Faithful was going to go off very soon. So we quickly finished and went outside, just to wait a few minutes to see Old Faithful go off for a third time! Pretty amazing.
Mammoth Hot Springs - Then we headed north to see the Hot Springs area of the park. Since it is late summer, many of the springs were not gushing with water. The views looked so strange since the land was covered with minerals from the springs and made it white. Weird.
Roosevelt Arch - At the north entrance there is a fascinating arch. It is beautifully built to have a great entrance into this great park! We had to leave the park to take pictures of it and then enter the park again since we were actually leaving through the northeast entrance. Back in the park we also saw a goat on the side of the road.
Beartooth Scenic Highway - We had been told that this highway was the way to go out of Yellowstone. And wow was this impressive! We drove up to almost 11,000 feet above sea level in the Beartooth Pass. I had a picture taken at 10,000 feet before it started to rain. Then sadly it rained all the way down the mountain. The views were absolutely breath taking, but we really couldn't take too many pictures once it started to rain.
So needless to say, once we got to the hotel we were all very tired after the long day!
