Today was a free day to explore the Grand Canyon in whatever way you wanted. We had the option of doing a helicopter flight but I turned it down because its very expensive and I've been told if you want to see the canyon at its best get in it. So that's exactly what we did.
We started trekking at 7am and headed back to the view point and downward into the canyon.
It was a long trek down, it felt never ending, and the sign reading 'down is optional, up is mandatory' was not comforting. Being inside the canyon definitely made me realise the scale of the place, it's ginormous!
Once we were down the views only got better. We walked to a view point at the bottom of the canyon which showed us the river below and the amazing peaks all around! It was beautiful but hot! We hid under a rock for shade while we ate our lunch but walking back there was no protection from the elements!
On the way back I left the group and went ahead, I wanted to get up ASAP because I wasn't enjoying the sun, plus seeing people running made me want to do some exercise, so I did! I got up to the top in good time but my god Was I dead!
I found my way back to the campsite by 3pm and had more food in the shade! I spent the rest of my time relaxing before having a shower to get all the dust off me and did my laundry. After that was done we played cards had food and enjoyed an early night!
