Today we finally left the Grand Canyon, but on our way to Monument Valley we stopped for one last look before we left for good. We had lunch on route and arrived at our campsite at 3pm. After camp was set up we chilled out and recovered from the long drive before heading out to the Monument Valley visitor centre. The views were simply stunning! I was honestly taken back, I even preferred it to the Grand Canyon, and that's saying something!
We met up with our guide who took us on a jeep tour through the valley. It was a real experience! Not many people get to see what we saw and to be told about all the films that were made here just shows what a fantastic place it really is!
We had traditional style food while watching a Native American dance! Once our food was done it was our turn to be the entertainment! We were asked to pair up for a Friendship Dance. Guys with girls! The four guys from our group ended up being paired with four Japanese tourists from another group! Dancing to a traditional beat and in Native American style while holding hands with a stranger who didn't speak my language was quite possibly the most awkward part of my travels!
We got back to the centre after dark for our last glimpse of the monuments under the night sky. The dust and wind must have knocked the life out of everyone because not one person stayed up past 10!
