Pit stop time!
So after a busy and energetic two weeks travelling the South Island I though a nice break was due in the wonderfully windy capital, Wellington!
However my first night was not of rest. Instead we sampled the midweek nightlife to give the guys the leaving party they deserved. After returning in r early hours of the morning we then had to wake up for a 6.30 departure... But then I could go back to bed whilst the others had a 11 hour bus ride!
The rest of that day I went up the botanical gardens. A beautiful layout which was a lot more natural and wild than others I've seen, my new roommate and I meandered the different pathways and stopped for a break at the rose garden. The rest of the evening was spent learning a new card game called 'kames'. A rather generous French guy was cooking crepes for everyone and insisted we play. Needless to say I lost but it was fun to learn another game.
The next day in Wellington was just as sunny but just as windy so I took refuge in the Te Papa museum of natural history and science. It was a huge building filled with lots of different exhibits and activities. However I had underestimated the cold weather and managed to develop a sore throat. This then developed into tonsillitis... So, my weekend of rest didn't really work out as I'd hoped but I loved my time in the Windy City and felt ready and raring to hop back the bus and head up north!!!
