Abel Tasman
So moving north up the South Island we make it around to the gorgeous national park of Abel Tasman. However when we arrived the rain was pouring down and the likely hood of doings hang glide were looking slim... The hostel was pretty cool with a open style kitchen where we had a huge BBQ the first night, a camp fire, pool table and stunning views of the forest.
So day 1 was actually sunny so we hiked out into the park. The views of the beaches and vegetation were stunning! Unfortunately we didn't have time to hike all the way to anchorage as we thought we had to be back for the hang glide. Instead we stopped at Apple tree beach and sunbathed. Finally, sunshine. I even had a swim but it was freezing!!!
So when we got back it turned out that the hang glide had been cancelled :(. And would go ahead at 6.30 the next morning :0!!! So that night we chilled, played some more cards and had an early night. The dorms were really nice. Single beds (yay, no bunks!), thick feather down duvets, so it was easy to get a good nights sleep.
And the next day I did it. I hang glided!!! And it was awesome!!! I was a little nervous before but once I was there I just went for it. First up and everything! They strapped me in laying on top of the driver. The take off was pretty scary and fast and once up there you could see for miles. We reached 2500ft then the towing microlite plane let us go. And that's when it got scary! Tumbling around and even driving the hang glide! But it was seriously cool and id love to do it again! Next stop skydive?!
