Friday 6th July – Day 9 – Seville. Decided to have an easy day as the feet are starting to get a little weary with the devotion to tracking down and viewing Andalusian Architecture. First up was a casual visit to the Parasols – a huge and controversial (according to our Concepcion) development in the Plaza de la Encarnacion which has been converted from a somewhat dowdy suburban marketplace into a market place encased in advanced architecture (see photo). We checked in and had a look at the Antiquarium underneath that shows walls, paths, drains, mosaics and fragments of glass and pottery preserved in place and dating from the 1st to the 5th century.
Next, we toddled off to the Archos de los Indies – an archive containing about 80 million papers, maps and trade documents relating to Spain's trade (?) with the Americas which (un)surprisingly was all controlled from Seville for a while until the river silted up and all the trade management was moved to the sea harbour downstream at Cadiz.
That pretty much summed up the sightseeing for the day, I went window shopping in the early evening before catching up for a drink around 8 pm, then dinner at a bar near our apartment.
