4 July Seville Hot Hot Hot. We met our guide this morning for the walking tour of Seville, she was excellent and so we also joined her for this afternoon's tour of the Cathedral. The tour group was mainly Australians with a few Americans. Concepion our guide took us around the old part of Seville and we enjoyed her commentary on the history of Seville. She impressed us with her local knowledge and flavour - one example when describing the overwhelming displays of baroque (overly-decorated) architecture, she said that there is a Sevillian saying that '… we would rather be dead than simple ….’.
We stopped for lunch then took her tour of the Cathedral which was excellent. After the tour we climbed the Giralda for some fantastic views of the city of Sevilla.
Around 4pm we had a siesta and then at 7pm wandered out again into the Park of Maria Luisa and the site where the 1929 Expo was held and is another magnificent example of Baroque architecture. As we have not seen a vegetable for days we decided to visit the supermarket and buy dinner, a salad.
We are enjoying Seville very much – tomorrow we have a tour of the Alcazar Real (again with Concepion) pronounced "Alcathar". Everything is pronounced differently to how you expect but C is doing well when armed with his Spanish/English dictionary and can now order us 2 Sangria’s with great panache and aplomb when the temp hits 37C in the afternoon ….
