Today we started off by going to the Smithsonian. I chose to go to the Air and Space museum instead of natural history. It was the first time I had ever been to the Smithsonian and it was awesome. There were missiles on display and spaceships hanging from the ceiling and simulators of a dog fight situation and much more than I can even write. I have never seen anything so amazing. This kind of learning is more memorable than standard classroom learning in my opinion because just reading about it in a book can be boring, and it is hard to remember things that don't interest you. A friend and me went on one of the simulators and it was amazing. It actually spun around when you turned it and could be crashed. Also at the museum it is tradition to taste astronaut ice cream, which felt weird in your mouth and tasted exactly like chocolate ice cream. After the Smithsonian, we went to the Capitol building and ate lunch. After lunch we had a guided tour of the capitol building. We first saw Washington's tomb, which the tour guide told us didn't have George Washington's corpse in because in Washington's will he said he wanted to be buried on Mt. Vernon. After that we went to see the state statues, where every state picks a person famous to the state's history and a statue is built in their honor. Oklahoma's statue is of Sequoyah, the man who created the Chickasaw written language. Then in one of the rooms there were paintings that told the stories of the American Revolution and the colonization of America. We then watched a short film about Washington D.C and left our guide and the Capitol Building. The guide we had for the Capitol building was one of the best we had the entire trip, making sure we had an understanding of the concepts and the subjects while keeping the group's attention. After the Capitol building we went to the Supreme Court and the Library of Congress, which were both closed. We then went to dinner and ended with a tour of the different memorials around Washington D.C, including the Lincoln Monument, the MLK memorial, the FDR memorial, and the Vietnam and Korean War memorials.
