Today was the last day of our trip and it was amazing. The first thing we did was take a guided tour of Colonial Williamsburg and the Governor's Palace. Our first stop on the tour was the Governor's Palace. When we walked into the front door there were swords and guns arranged in a decorative pattern to impress visitors. We all were taking pictures of it, so the display did its job well. We then went upstairs adorned in more weapons to a living room. The guide told us that the last governor's family had a much more luxurious house in England and the Governor's Palace was like a step-down from their usual life style. We also learned that most people hated the last governor so when he heard of the possible revolution he left. After the living room we went to the downstairs ballroom, where we learned to bow like a gentlemen and curtsey like a lady like was the custom in those days. We then went into the garden of the Governor's Palace and walked down a hill to a brick maker. We got to help make the bricks by treading on clay that we sunk to our knees in. After doing that and washing our feet we went to a wigmaker, where a lady in character described her job to us and how much money a wig cost. It was the first time I had ever thought about the fact that even if you had a small wig you were in the top five percent on the social scale in colonial times. People at the time also send their wigs to be cleaned and redone weekly or monthly to the wigmaker. Next, we went to a dressmaker, a blacksmith, and a gunsmith where they described their jobs to us and were doing their job in front of us. The guide and the people working all went into detail about their job, which helped us understand the concepts. This type of learning has helped me understand the colonial lifestyle more than textbook learning, so I believe this is a better learning style than standard learning. Our final stop was a prison where there was a small wooden room with a chamber pot, a window, a chain on the wall, and was meant for six people. The guard's house was actually connected to the prison. We then had lunch and spent the rest of the day at Busch Gardens amusement park. Today was very fun and informative and though it's my last day on the trip it was definitely a good ending to a great trip.
