After the long, hot day of driving the day before the little bit of a sleep in and cool weather was a nice surprise.
Once everyone was ready, the first stop of the day was brunch at the "historic" nugget casino where my sisters got to experience the magic of keno... Which they then quickly got bored of and instead flipped over to use for doodle papers.
Following our meal we walked across the street to the Nevada State Museum which is housed in the old Carson City mint building. There we learned some about Nevada's mining history from both typical, behind-glass exhibits on the lives of miners as well as a walk through their underground replica of a working mine.
The museum also housed a variety of collections including guns, bottles, dolls, and buttons - The last of which particularly interested Monie, my grandma.
The last stop in the museum was the working coin press which we were lucky enough to see in action, pressing images onto real silver coins that were being boxed to be sent out to a coin collector's supplier of some sort.
Returning to the car after the museum we drove the few blocks and visited the small state Capitol. With only two stories and four main rooms it is one of the smallest Capitol buildings we've seen. There was some beautiful Alaskan marble wainscoting and flooring as well as a unique, painted banner around the first floor ceiling that featured Nevada's major crops as well as the names of the various ores that can be found in the state. While the original Senate and Assembly rooms were available to view, they have been converted to a press room and a small museum room since the working senate and assembly were moved into their own building.
The newer and definitely more modern legislative building lacked the artistry we've mostly become accustomed to in the chambers but was filled with beautiful woodwork and inlaid-granite desks. - Rebecca
We took naps and relaxed for part of the afternoon and then spent time BBQing, visiting, swimming, and doing laundry with Monie and Papa. The day went too fast. It it was wonderful to see them after our adventures. It was appropriate that we started off our with seeing them and we ended it with seeing them. - Carrie
