Our longest journey so far. 32 hours with only 1 hour off the bus. Hardcore! However, we took it in our stride and the time passed fairly quickly. The first few hours were spent gazing in awe out of the window at the spectacular views. (Typically the day we left Bariloche the sun was shining and it was clear blue skies). We arrived in Calafate feeling refreshed and very relieved to see the sun was shining here too.
The next day we headed to Perito Moreno glacier. The journey to the glacier was filled with stunning scenery and the glacier itself was breath takingly beautiful. Where it meets the lake its 5km wide and 60m high. It was difficult to peal ones eyes from this remarkable feat of nature. It appears as though an army of one hundred thousands ghouls had risen from the earth and instantaneously been frozen. Moreno moves 2m a day and is one of it`s kind. Huge chunks break off regularly creating a thunderous clap giving birth to small ice-bergs that drift their way across Lago Argentina. We were blessed with a sunny day, quite rare apparently, giving the ice spectacle an eerie blue hue and the lake a luminous green glow. We loved the glacier and think it may be one of the highlights of our trip so far!!!

Eva and William Hello Caroline and Stu, After seeing El Calafate glaciers, you two don't need to visit Alaska. Very spectakular pictures indeed. We had to see your pics over and over. We wished to be there with you. We've just returned from our Hawaii-an cruise, had lovely time. Happy to be home again. After we've settled, we shall gear up for Christmas holidays. Hope to hear from you where to contact you when we wish to call you. Take care, stay happy, lots of love Dad and Eva.
Dad & Eva Hi Stu & Caroline: We learned some thought generating stuff during our x15 day trip to Hawaii. The active volcano has been spewing toxic minerals and gasses into our world 24x7 for 26 years .. non stop. The liquid vent is > one Km wide, liquid rock, going into the ocean. Every known mineral is contained in the liquid rock. Both good, AND what we would consider poison!!! In addition to the lava flows, there is a huge single gas vent ~~ x1 Km diameter and many hundreds of smaller gas vents. The gas is mixed with lower heat steam, and is therefore visible. The expert Hawaii guide on board the ship told us that the amount of gasses and solids coming from this one volcano in ONE month exceeds all of mankind's toxins from all nations, all over the world coming from power gen, cars and industry .. in one year. A few miles to the east of the 'Big Island' Hawaii, .. there is another sub sea volcano (mountain) growing at the rate of 0.7 metres per year. It is currently 16,000 feet above the ocean floor and still has 3,000 feet to go before it becomes another Hawaiian island. The new island/volcano is spewing out 1,000 times more toxins into the ocean than the big island volcano!!! 24/7 non stop!!! and has been active for thousands of years. It will take another 1500 years to become an island. These volcano's are only x2 of many active volcano's (active 24/7) around the world!!! The oldest of the hawaiian islands is > five million years old, and is no longer above the 'HOT SPOT'. The biggest game fish in the world are caught ~~ fifty to one hundred Km from where the Lava meets the ocean. I suggested that perhaps there is both good and bad news regarding toxins coming from the volcanoes. He said .. "since it has been going on for millions of years, there is almost certainly, only good news" It certainly feels right to think green, .. but this trip has given me much to think about!!! Blog: Love all your pics and all your words: They are very much appreciated. Be safe .. please .. Lol Dad and Eva
