4 nights in the Everglades was enough. We packed up and after +- 3 hours on the road, hit civilization just south of Miami. On route just outside the 'Glades, we stopped at the most insane fruit & veg stand called "Robert is here" (we had just read about it in the Lonely Planet) - stocked up on fresh goods and a Key Lime Pie milkshake, which was heavenly!!

Again, we winged it and found a campsite called Larry & Penny Thompson camping. For $16, we settled in for the night. A perfectly pleasant spot, surrounded by lychee and mango trees, with sooo much fruit on the ground, it seemed such a waste cos you weren't allowed to pick the fruit! Not wanting to be shot by either Larry or Penny, we respectfully abided by the rules and did not touch their fruit.

We woke up and with Boo chomping at the bit for a beach, drove like maniacs and hit Miami. We took a detour through Little Havana, which was cool to see the Cuban culture, all very colorful and it felt as though you were not in America at all. Finally we hit south beach. I think the photos say it all - the beautiful Atlantic Ocean is just amazing! We have NEVER seen clarity like that in wave crashing beach water before - at least you get to see the haai's before they nab you!

Our treat to ourselves was a tiny wooden cabin near North Miami Beach, in a State park called Oleta River. It had a double bed and air con - that was it, but it felt like 5 star after the 'Glades! We spent 2 nights there, which was the perfect location for a quick commute to the Miami beaches. Without knowing what day it is anymore, we ended up being in Miami for Memorial Day weekend....having left the partying lifestyle in London, we avoided the now heaving bars and pubs on the beaches and headed for Ft Lauderdale to visit Ron, Dee & Lolly.

Miami beach done - defs wonna go back to explore further one day. Boo's favorite beaches so far.
