Lake Michigan
Seems the Yanks aren't too concerned about the riff-raff that enter their country from the north as okes barely glanced at us as he waved us through immigration back into the home of the brave and the land of the free. High fives all round! Hard to believe that we had been in Canada that morning as after our longest drive yet, nearly 12 hours in the car, we were so damn happy to finally arrive on the western shore of the majestic Lake Michigan. Chuffed that Van Buren State Park was home for the next 3 nights. Our small 6-man tent was dwarfed on our 50-foot site in the middle of RV heaven. After not having electricity for so long we took full advantage of being in the RV area and swiftly plugged in and filled up our little fridge with ice-cold beers. Bottoms up! A mere 10-minute walk away was the beach where we plonked ourselves for some sun worshiping. It was heavenly until the hordes of families arrived and unruly kids kicked sand all over us. Back to camp to dust off, regroup and drink beer. On day two we explored nearby South Haven - what an amazing little hidden gem of a town. A nautical, boating, yachting vibe, with quaint antique shops and coffee houses along a tiny high street. In a nutshell, we only saw a tiny area along Lake Michigan but what a beautiful place. Known for it's sunsets over the water, we will never forget how breathtaking they were: seriously beats a Cape Town sunset any day (and that's saying something!!!) Typical chicks, us two damsels in distress bought the wrong oil from Wal-Mart for the car and had to disturb the RV-ing neighbors for assistance. Lovely to meet them and most grateful for their help! They were very jealous to hear about our road trip and wished us well. We left them our mobile number and LA address: heads up Barry in case two elderly folk rock up with their RV in tow. Do let them in and give them a cuppa, we're on our way…
