Hello.
Up at 6am again.
Back sitting looking at the sights over this spectacular blue water.
Lovely breakfast.
Spectacular day.
I'm climbing the Bell Tower today.
There is a lovely girl named Anna who works in the restaurant for breakfast.
Jupiters has a deal with the restaurant to provide breakfasts for the guests.
Then it is a place for the public for lunch and dinner.
I see Anna standing in the courtyard every time I return to the hotel.
She is so friendly and we always have a chat.
She gets up at 4.30am to get here to start breakfasts.
And finishes at 3pm.
And she stands in the courtyard all day, greeting and seating people.
It's pretty hot in that courtyard.
I took a photo of my window overlooking the courtyard.
See the top window, the room above the balcony.
That's mine.
It's sort of like an attic.
It has sloping ceilings.
No problem for me but the young man who bought me to the room was a bit taller.
And he forgot about the angles on the ceiling.
And he hit his head.
Beautiful room.
And the air conditioning is magnificent.
Off to The Bell Tower.
Hardly a soul in Jupiter's Temple.
Really enjoyed the climb this morning.
Very narrow passageway with very, very steep marble steps opened onto a large open area with amazing views.
Then back inside to climb the iron steps!
The day is perfect and the views just amazing.
Terracotta roofs, hills as a backdrop, the sea and that magnificent blue sky.
I was up there by myself for quite a while.
It was wonderful.
Occasionally, a head would appear up the last of the steps and we'd chat, take photos etc.
Loved it.
Hey Andrew, see the white building of Cafe Vidilica amongst the greenery of Marjan Hill?
OK.
4 things on this ticket.
Off to the Cathedral next.
The Cathedral of St Domnius.
Built as almost the centre of the Diocletian Palace around 300AD.
It was not a Cathedral then.
It was a Mausoleum for Diocletian who was one of The Roman Emperors.
He was buried in this Mausoleum.
He tried to eradicate all Christians and created many martyrs.
Their bones now rest in this Cathedral as the Emperor's sarcophagus was cast out in 700 AD.
( And hasn't been found since.)
Not really very big.
Just lovely.
Really, really old of course.
I was fascinated by the huge carved wooden doors.
You could see the wear of thousands of hands on the lower panels of the doors.
But the carvings higher up are very clear and distinct.
The cathedral originally had a mosaic floor.
This has been found 17cm below the existing floor.
I watched fascinated as a young woman was trying to piece a section back together.
Next the Crypt.
I loved this.
Very, very simple.
And lovely.
The Baptistry.
Beautiful stonework.
And archway.
Back into Jupiter's Temple and ran into Elaine and Sookun.
I'd met these ladies the first day at breakfast.
Elaine is from New York and Sookun is from South Korea and they arranged to meet in Split.
They are great fun.
We have caught up several times over the past few days.
Then wandered the market again.
Mum, I bought a top.
Actually, three.
All like this but different colour round the hem.
I originally bought one but then went back.
The lady in that tent loved me.
Bought 2 more and, you will be thrilled to know, a pair of knee length white shorts.
( I can hear you cheering from here, Mum!)
And I love 'em.
And I'm cool.
And I can eat forever and never fill this top!
My idea of heaven.
So then I needed a new bag.
Look!!!
One zip ( except for the one on the side.)
I can operate this one.
Wandered Riva.
Wasn't feeling crash hot.
Decided I needed food.
Had a fruit salad.
Not enough really.
But then sat (yep) in the Jupiter's Restaurant and had the most magnificent beef salad.
Then went back to my wonderful room for a nap.
Yep.
That worked.
Feel better now.
