That last entry seems eons ago.
I am lying on the bed, listening to the slow guitar music wafting up from the restaurant in the courtyard below, through the white shutters that adorn the three windows in the room.
I have a full wall of the old stone wall that was part of the Palace built around 400 AD.
It's 10pm here.
That's that's 6am over there.
( Hey Andrew, in the old days, I could have rung you and you would have been there!)
OK.
Flight from Rome to Split.
Lovely.
Great in fact.
The views out of the plane were spectacular!
Could not believe that we flew low over Split as we turned for the runway and I could see the magnificent boardwalk and the tall tower that until today, I'd only seen pictures of.
Seeing it from the air was AMAZING.
Now, the plane was a smallish one.
Might have taken 100 people.
There weren't that many today though.
And it had 2 engines with big propellers.
I was seated so I could look slightly back and see the engine.
I basically decided not to think about it.
However, when I went for a walk tonight, I got quite a surprise when I found myself humming "Coming in on a wing and a prayer."
So somewhere in there, something registered with the brain!
Couldn't have got those magnificent sights from a bigger plane though.
And I'm here.
And I loved it.
And I loved Split airport.
Customs lady met us on the tarmac ...
Tiny airport ...
My case arrived ... all the way from Melbourne.
Ivan was there to meet me ... great young guy ...and about a 30 minute drive to old Split.
He parked the van and then walked the case and I through tiny laneways to The Jupiter Hotel.
Where I was greeted with the words ...
" We've been waiting to meet you. Emails have been flying back and forth about you."
So I arrive in my room to a wonderful box of chocolates from Amanda, Angela and Fulvia, Berwick Travel.
And a great note!
Yah.... Thank you. They look delicious!
I'll start those tomorrow.
Chocolate keeps me awake, and we don't want that.
And a beautiful bottle of wine from Andrew and George with a special note!
That was a great surprise.
Thank you.
Loved it.
I could be having a late night wine tomorrow listening to the music!
And yes, it is amazing already, isn't it?
Bit tired now.
I'll add photos and turn off the light.
Went for a wander on the waterfront almost as soon as I got into the room.
Just absolutely beautiful.
I was a bit worried that I wouldn't be able to find my way back to Jupiters Hotel through all those lanes and right hand turns...
But not a problem at all.
Walked across the Riva ...
Into the Square ...
Past the wonderful statue ...
Up the steps past the diners sitting at the small tables on the steps ...
A left hand turn ...
Long alley way, more diners ...
Right into my Jupiters courtyard ...
And I'm back.
Easy.
And exciting.
And WONDERFUL.
I got up at 8.30am Sat.
That's 46 hrs ago, isn't it?
I've had 4 hours sleep.
Amazing what you can do.

Andrew Browning Dobro jutro Carolyn, ~~YOU’RE IN CROATIA~~ How good is it? I’ve been following your blog, was distracted with jet lag and catching up on things………………….but I was following your rainy trip in two cars to Tullamarine and flight to Dubai then Rome and then finally into stunning Split. ~~**WOW**~~ What a start and that’s just the hotel!!!!!!! ………………..can so see you right now. Slow guitar music Pristine white shutters ……………….and that STONE WALL, you certainly got a slab of it haha. Is that not an O.M.G & WOW moment right there ???!!! Diocletian’s Palace built circa 400AD no less!!!!! I hope you looked at every inch of it, touched it, felt the history and stories through the stone workmanship. Beautifully converted into your hotel (I checked it out a few weeks ago), lovely room. Haha, yes that was fun talking “long distance” I knew you would like Split, great photo from the air, we have only flown at night, so it would have been amazing to see Split spanning up the Dalmatian coastline. Had to laugh about the “smallish plane” but hey, you have aerial photos of split ........and I love the one of the propeller! When you arrived in old Split, did you park at the start of Riva and walk to the Palace? (just want to make sure we didn’t get ripped off haha)…….comparing notes here! What an experience in itself - walking to you hotel, all that history around you, just waiting to be photographed, touched, viewed, marvelled at. Just when you think it cant get any better, a sharp turn into another narrow lane filled with steps made of stones surprises you………………….and this was a PALACE……………….and YOU are staying in it !!!!!. Great gift Amanda. Carolyn, I know how they taste because it’s exactly what you sent me!!!!!!!!.........didn’t take long to polish them off either...........and I know you’re not a big wine drinker, but there’s a lot of vineyards and wine in Croatia. I requested this wine as we sat in your hotel courtyard and had funch……..that’s “fun with lunch” and enjoyed a bottle of this wine, hope you enjoy it too. How good was all that attention…….. Cake, Chocolates, Wine, Hotel staff wanting to meet you……..pretty good start!I’m excited that you are there and loving it already. Tired????? Noooo………..excellent idea !!!!....... a walk on the vibrant waterfront filled with activity, did you sit with your camera clicking for a while and think ”WOW” You will feel much better with a shower and sleep, but yes, 4 hours sleep in 46 – you’re running on excitement. At one end of Riva is the “green” market have a wander around it, great fun and interesting. The other end of Riva has a wide flight of old stone steps that go to Marjan Hill if you feel like the walk. Worth every step of paved paths, fragrant forest and ancient stone walls. Stop at Café Vidilica for a refreshing “beverage” and soak up the amazing view of Split and the Dalmatian coastline. I recommend the berry panna cotta as well…………………yum. Let the fun and excitement continue while you enjoy Split, soooooo thinking of you! AndrewXx
