We were so pleased when we woke up on Saturday morning feeling cool and comfortable as the airconditioner had stayed on all night, so the genny lasts longer than we expected. Looks like we can get 12 hours out of a tank, bonus!
By the time we left at 9.30am it was very apparent that the day would be a scorcher. We took the coast road from Dongara to Geraldton which was familiar especially seeing the trees that are shaped by the wind and blown parallel to the ground.
Passing old Greenough was also familiar and I remember how much time we'd spent in 1993 walking around the historical old town, which was divided by a road to keep the Protestants and the Catholics from each other.
OMG how Geraldton has grown. Like all the little fishing towns we’d passed yesterday, it was familiar but had grown exponentially. We booked into Drummond Cove Caravan Park but their motorhome sites were along the highway, which was OK but a view from our window of the sea would have been nice as we’d hoped.
A scorcher it was on Saturday and continued on Sunday but thankfully by Monday there was a "cool" change.
According to the caravan park advertising it was a short stroll to the beach, so late on Saturday arvo off we went for a stroll. Well not so much a stroll but a good 600 metres over sandhills and some serious bush crossing. Although it was windy on the beach (as we expected) it was wonderful to finally be alongside the Indian Ocean. This part of the beach is accessible to 4WDs, so typically it wasn’t at it’s best, but good enough for us. There is a huge amount of revegetation going on through the sandhills which is encouraging.
Kimbo donned the rashy and hit Tarcoola Beach on Sunday morning for a much anticipated surf. I left him there for a couple of hours because it was way too hot for me to be sitting/walking on the beach. While he was away I caught up on some overdue long girlie chats on the phone. When I picked him up I was surprised to see his nose………..he’d forgotten to put Zinc on it, and quite frankly it was a beacon!
The rest of the day was spent watching Australia crush the Poms and keeping cool……it was 41 degrees after all.
Today we went through the process of having the bus inspection to enable us to transfer the registration from SA to WA and hence save a large amount of money each year. Sadly we didn’t pass the inspection as there was a small crack in the driver’s side windscreen and a couple of little issues that Kimbo was able to fix. So started a saga…………..as often happens. Kimbo booked the bus in at 3.00pm to have the windscreen replaced. While he was there I paid for the failed inspection of $140.10 and sadly bought more groceries. I then sat with him in the “customer lounge” until 6.00pm when said windscreen was replaced and we could go home. He did what he had to do as did I and we packed up ready for our departure tomorrow and our re-inspection full of hope.
On finishing what he had to do, he was up to his elbows in oil and grease and thought it best to have a shower at the ablution block. Much to his chagrin (and mine) all the water in the caravan park was off, but after degreasing said limbs he was allowed to use our shower as climbing into bed in his condition (with fresh sheets) was not an option.
Who knows where we will be tomorrow!
