Back we went to our nearest "big smoke", rattling over the dirt road which I swear is worse now than what it was when we came out here a few days ago. The car was full of dust when we took it off the trailer. Have to work on that one. We were able to pick up our mail, fill the cupboards with food and have 2 new tyres fitted and a couple re-grooved to the bus ($600).
People everywhere as you would expect in this summer holiday mecca.
It's not surprising that there are wind farms along the coast, wind is what they do best down here.
It was also where we celebrated New Year’s Eve and shared a bevvy or two with Diane and Gubby an interesting couple from Kambalda. Ray and Rebecca who used to call North Haven in Adelaide home are also travelling in their bus with two kids (eek!!!), they have an ex-STA bus and it’s just beautiful. It was a balmy night and perfect for sitting outside and reeling in another new year in a new location sharing stories with other travellers.
We started 1994 by being up early for a 9.00am tug cruise to Woody Island about 15km off the coast. I was feeling better than Kimbo (he had a hangover naturally) until we got on the tug and sadly the weather had taken a turn for the worse overnight and the wind was howling, it was overcast, cold and the sea was very rough. Thankfully it was only a 2 hour cruise and that was plenty for me, I wasn’t seasick but many others were which wasn’t helpful. Don, the skipper was a card and give an interesting commentary. The birdlife was prolific with endless Cape Barren Geese and sea eagles flying over and around us. Sea lions were lolling in and around the massive granite island. Photos weren’t high on my priority list this morning.
When we got home we had a well-deserved kip and managed to get a load of washing done and it didn’t blow off the line! Kimbo caught up with Gubby to let him know that he wouldn’t be taking him up on his offer of a trip on his boat tomorrow as we’ve decided to move on. He came back with a bag full of frozen fish from one of Gubby’s recent expeditions, they’ll come in handy.
