As soon as we passed under this extraordinary bridge we stopped on the first available bank side as my back was still playing up. Not much better the next day so we stayed another night. Brenda went into town for supply's. The second evening we realised that one of the buildings was an abattoir and the eerie sound of the cows mooing as they were making there last journey from the lorries into the building made Brenda feel very sad and is now considering becoming a vegetarian. As we moved on the next day the canal was more like the Thames than any other one we had been on, nice houses, fields that came right down into the water. We stopped the next night in another small village, we are only moving on very slowly as our weather window for the sea is not till Sunday or Monday. In this part of Holland every three or four bridges a man with a clog on a fishing rod dangles it down to your boat, once the money, between 3 and 7 euros has been put in the clog you are free to proceed. So far we have travelled virtually the full length of the county through dozens of locks and bridges they had closed the biggest railway and a number of major motorways so we could pass through and have only had to pay 15 euros for the entire trip in fees. Really quite unbelievable.
