After possibly the worst nights sleep ever, we eventually made it to Surat Thani train station. From there we caught a bus to the ferry port which took about an hour or so. It was only 9 am, and we were all nackered, but excited to get to Koh Phangan! The ferry was typically crammed full of people, most of which had already started drinking in the sunshine. At that point, I couldn't have been paid to do that! It was a scortching hot day and the boat was boiling but I managd to get near some air con so I was happy. Masa and I watched a couple of episodes of the Kardashians, they are perfect for long journeys like this, easy to watch crap TV.
We finally reached Koh Phangan, we were all so excited! There were taxis available outside to ferry port which you shared with as many people that they could cram on, for only 100 baht which wasn't as bad as we thought. We were staying at one of the notorious party hostels, Ringside Hostel, and it wasn't long until we had arrived! The sun was beaming down, it was 11 am and people were already doing shots! The hostel looked amazing, perfect for our time on the party island. The reception staff offered us the chance to do a hostel island tour the following day, but we were so tired and overwhelmed we thought it might be best to chill and have a think about it. We were shown to our dorm which was pretty awesome! It was nothing special interiory wise but perfect for what we needed. It was a mixed dorm with 12 beds so would be a great opportunity for us to meet lots of new people in time for Full Moon in two days time. We met a new guy that had just arrived, Mike from Atlanta, and another guy from Belfast. The three of us girls went next door to a massive Thai supermarket to grab some snacks and then across the road to a Thai food place for lunch. The owners had a little boy, he must of been about 3 years old. He was the cutest but most confident little boy I'd ever met, I really wanted to keep him! A hotel on the beach front allowed the guests of Ringside to use their pool so we headed down there where we met the boys and chilled in the beautiful sun until it had gone in.
That evening, Ringside were holding a BBQ for all the guests, it was dead cheap too. The BBQ was amazing, with the most incredible mash potato with rosmary and garlic! I hadn't had mash in months so went up for seconds and thirds! After, all the guests from the hostel and some from others started playing drinking games out the front of Ringside. We met up with Lindsey and Sam who we had been travelling with before but had gone our separate after Au Nang! It was so good to see them again, our little travelling family had been reunited! The music was blaring, the drinks were flowing, beer pong on one side and flip cup on the other! They also started a massive game of twister with water and washing up liquid, it was mayhem! I played on the second game of twister and won along side a guy from Mexico. We'd won ourselves a 300 baht tab each at the bar...so three strong drinks! I was chuffed with that! We were having so much fun I was actually gutted when everyone wanted to move on to the beach. It was a 15 minute taxi drive away, and when we arrived it reminded me of a bigger version of Koh Phi Phi. It was a little bit of an anti climax to what was an awesome night back at the hostel, so both Masa and I had started to sober up and there was only one thing on our minds...FOOD! We grabbed some chips and met up with another group of guys from the hostel who had also had enough. We sat and chatted for a while then all headed back to the hostel together. They were all from places all over the world, it's so interesting to meet so many people from so many different backgrounds and cultures yet we all are here for the same reason. What an incredible first day/night on Koh Phangan, a sign of things to come I hope!
