Douglas Brown's Travels
Day 39 I slept in to 9am then headed down to breakfast. Today I was going on an expedition to find EXPO 2015 Milano. I left the hotel on the 11am shuttle bus to the Airport where I caught the Malpensa Express train to Cardona station. Deciding on an early lunch, I found a cafe and had one of the best salads of the whole trip. Washed down with sparkling water. I then boarded the underground on the M1 Red line for the 40 minute journey to EXPO STATION. I did not know what to expect from the Expo and I was impressed at the size of the site. 200 acres of exhibition space with each country having. Their own pavilion. As indicated in the title of this blog, I was as impressed by the architecture of the pavilions as I was with the displays they housed. The very first sight that greeted me were what appeared to be a legion of terracotta warriors. However, on closer inspection they were food warriors made from models of different foods. It was a battle between nations to express the most creative architecture and somehow tie it to the theme of the Expo, "feed the world". For six and a half hours I wandered the expo. According to my pedometer, travelling 12.3 kilometres. I did not see every pavilion as this time inly allowed me to travel the length of the central walk way and return. I would have needed at least two days to view everything. Foot sore I returned to the underground and retraced my journey to Cardosa where a beer and pizza provided dinner. My timing was perfect as the train was waiting at the platform and the courtesy bus was waiting at the airport to return me to my hotel. A very full day that was worth it.
