We were able to tour the Terminus Dam on Lake Kaweah today.
It was pretty neat. Of course looking at the city and orchards from Headquarters is really neat. Look at all that stuff you can see.
The marina on Lake Kaweah has three fingers of docks. There are a lot of private houseboats out there. But every time the wind blows those 3 fingers of docks break off and go floating away. Not real far but still. Last time the whole marina was out in the lake.
The fusegates were added to the dam in 2005 to bring the lake level up higher. Also it's easier and cheaper to replace the fusegates than it is to rebuild the earthen dam.
The Gems are little electric cars. We took the tour in the 4 seater with the soft doors. The A/C is a couple of fans on the dash. Great for good weather, not for the hot temperatures we've been dealing with.
When you get to the picture looking up in the water tunnel at the Top you are seeing the first funnel that the water goes into. The water tunnel is actually called the intake chamber. The water goes up the intake chamber, into the first funnel which goes down a pipe under the fusegate and lifts it up. The fusegates breaks as it's lifted. Once every 3 years they lift the fusegates 1/8 of an inch with jacks and spray out under them with air. Nothing can be under there or it will mess up the delecate balance and prevent the fusegates from working properly.
If you ever get out here you'll have to take the tour with Brady. It was pretty neat.
