These two bush babies plopped onto the floor from the (thatched) ceiling at the house whilst we were having breakfast this morning. They are nocturnal so they were pretty shocked both by their descent and by the sudden onset of daylight. Whilst they were still dazed we scooped them up in a towel and the photo shows them just before they leapt off a spade and shot up a tree.

The first big cat sighting on this trip to Africa - and a spectacular one. We came across a young male lion that had just killed a big warthog - I can still hear him crunching through the ribs. We watched him work his way through the warthog's anatomy for half an hour or so, after which he started regularly checking that the coast was clear - no doubt concerned about how much of the "lions share" he was going to be able to tuck away before any competition pitched...

Chris and Janet (and four other families) developed this five bed lodge in the Jejane Private Nature Reserve, which abuts the Kruger National Park - the principal advantage being that the only other vehicles you see are those belonging to the owners of the other private lodges in the Reserve. Oops - Chris was cruising along at 145kph, which is very quiet and comfortable in the Discovery, but the limit is 120kph and there was a speed trap just over the brow of a hill = a R750 fine (about £47) - but at least you don't get points on your licence here. What was crazy though is that the police were operating the speed trap on the central reservation hard shoulder - requiring you to brake in the fast lane, pull off to the right and back up.
