The first big cat sighting on this trip to Africa - and a spectacular one. We came across a young male lion that had just killed a big warthog - I can still hear him crunching through the ribs. We watched him work his way through the warthog's anatomy for half an hour or so, after which he started regularly checking that the coast was clear - no doubt concerned about how much of the "lions share" he was going to be able to tuck away before any competition pitched up. Sure enough, he suddenly stood up and walked off with the remains of the warthog and within seconds two lionesses emerged from the bush and started following the trail - with a further two youngsters sitting patiently in the shade and the vultures starting to circle overhead.
