Sunday Breakfast on the lawn at Funwe Cottage on Lake Malawi - 3 November

There is an exhibition on at the moment in Blantyre, mounted jointly by the National Museums of Malawi and Scotland, to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Livingstone's birth. One of Livingstone' maps in the exhibition depicts the area around the southern end of Lake Malawi and if you look carefully in the middle of the attached photo you can see that he marked Funwe Hill. Footnote "Funwe" (possibly) means "nose shaped".

Carrie, Jon and I had a very nice lunch in the La Taverna restaurant (pictured) after a hectic morning delivering two loads of seed from Mitongwe (by 0730), driving to Blantyre (180km) and rushing round banks and vehicle spare parts departments before they closed for lunch. The restaurant is on the ground floor of Mandala House, which is the oldest building still standing in Malawi - built in 1882 by the Moir brothers from Glasgow - hence the Scottish flag fly...

A couple of the local agro dealers sold out of Funwe Seed quickly and had to be urgently restocked; so Carrie, myself and the Land Cruiser were roped in to help and made 6 trips, with about 500kg of seed in the back each time - before breakfast. The bags in the picture are so-called 'mother bags' and weigh 50kg each - these guys are strong.

The truck in the photo is an Albion (made in Glasgow), converted into use as a bus for Nyasaland (now Malawi) Transport - spotted rotting away gently outside the Blantyre Museum.
