Checotah, OK to Southhaven Mississippi - 368 miles
90 Sunny
Day 106
As usual, we were up early and on our way. We rested and relaxed yesterday afternoon. Hugh inspected the damage done by wind in Texas more closely. We made the decision not to stop for repairs in Texas due to the rapid approach of Hurricane Hermine. Hugh found some broken awning parts and some damage to a roof seam. He took out his magic toolbox, and bottomless bag of spare parts, and managed temporary repairs. Hopefully it won't rain real hard before we get home. We've learned that the further away from repair shops you stay the better. Seems sometimes they break more than they fix. Good repairs on the road are a real issue. We debated about the expense of the extension ladder we bought two months ago. It has been well worth it. I do not now how we would have managed without it.
The weather was very hot and dry. The roads in Oklahoma were very bumpy. Arkansas roads were not much better. As we approached Memphis the roads got better. All day the traffic was moderately heavy. Surprisingly there was a lot of truck traffic. We passed signs to Graceland, and Elvis Presley Blvd. in Memphis.
Our RV Park, Eaze Daze RV Park, was new and very nice. I left Hugh to set up while I did some grocery shopping.
Later we walked as the sunset. The sky was a wonderful shade of pink and blue.
It was beautiful!
