Brie & Trent's Travels
Trent and I have made it safely... we are in Madrid and it is hot! After years of traveling and four metros we found our way to the hostel. La Posada de Huertas hostel. They separated us,, female and male dorms... which is quite interesting since I didn't bring a clock. I think I might find one to buy because I am using Trent's alarm clock as my watch.
We found a small cafe-bar that was full of people so we got ourselves a bocadillo hispano (a baguette sandwich with spanish tortilla and chesse) and a cana (draft beer). It was delicious... well as delicious as spanish cuisine gets. At least now I know what to order.
Today we spent the day traveling the city. We went to the Prado Museum and saw a lot of Goya and Velasquez paintings. They also had a huge Picasso exhibit that was celebrating 25 years of having Guernica in Spain. After that we went to the Palacio real which is the king's palace... followed by Plaza Mayor (one of my favorite places in Madrid). The facade of one wall of the plaza has paintings of nude women and it just looks so cool.. i love it. The plaza is also lined with several outdoor cafes (terrazas) where people sit to rest from the heat and grap a cana or coke. I showed Trent the huge hams hanging from the ceiling in the Ham Museum which is actually a cafe... yum yum.
We traveled around Sol ( a huge shopping district where all of the main roads in Madrid lead to) and then headed back near our hostel to get another bocadillo at our cafe Neilo. After a wonderful and needed siesta we headed out to get some gelato, as one of the guys staying at the hostel told us that it was the best ice cream he had ever had... no the less it was delicious. But I am going to assume Italy's is better. Now we are heading to a pub to watch the World Cup game.
We are heading out to Sevilla tomorrow on the fast train (3h) bright and early since we are only spending a night there. We miss you and love you all!!!
