Brie & Trent's Travels
So this picture is nothing like where we are at... but it is in Eastern Europe :)
So wow it has been a while since we have been near a computer so now I am going to try to cram it all in. Here at the hostel they charge 2sk per min to use the computer and we get about 30sk per dollar. Too bad I only decided to get 500sk out of the atm for Trent and I for the day so I am going to try to make this quick.
Our last night in Florence was great... we headed out to the Festival which was a local music and food festival for a month every night for free. They had some sort of carnival games.... we bought raffle tickets to spin a wheel to win some wine and salami... only in Italy right? The guy let me spin the wheel but made me stand on top of the picnic table to do it... so funny... we didnt win, but they gave anyone free wine who was watching anyways. We watched a local band for a bit, and drank some italian draft. I also had a non pasturized heiniken (?) I just woke up so I cant spell... but anyways I only thought that they did that with milk. It tasted the same. So they closed the bathrooms early and we had to get creative about places to go which was somewhat amusing. Then me and a couple people from the hostel headed out to the clubbing area to check out the FLorence nightlife. It was already 1am and Trent decided to get some sleep... we were leaving for Cinque Terra at 11am... maybe that was a good idea. The clubs were really cool, but they closed around 4 so we werent there for long. I love getting in for free... it costs guys 12e. sooo expensive.
The next morning we headed out to Cinque Terra which turned out to be exactly what I expected.... so beautiful and finally a nice beach! We went to our campsite (yea we camped... but it was in this permanent tent thing with two beds) and we took a siesta. Then we headed to Montorroso which is the most northern town to have some dinnner. Upon arriving I was so sad that I didnt bring my suit.. even though it was nearly 7pm the sun was still warm and people were swimming. We ate some delicious food (pesto lasange and gnocchi) and some gelato.
The next day we were planning on heading out to Cinqu Terra to do the hike in between the first 3 cities but there was a regional train strike. But only from 9-5. sooo odd and inconvenient. The train was the only possible way to get there so we decided to head to the beach in Deiva Marina, where we were staying, which is 15min by train out of Cinque Terra. The beach was awesome but soooo hot. We rented an umbrella for 4e and it was worth it. We tried the entire day to keep every part of our bodies in the shaded region. Let me tell you... italian women are the most beautful women I have ever seen... so tan and so fit... even the old ladies... all wearing 2 pieces and looking good.
Even though we managed to keep our bodies under the umbrella 95% of the time both of us got sunburned.,... we were there from 1045 until 5. The train strike was extended and we didnt end up making it into cinque terra until about 7pm. So we went to Monorola and ate the most delicious dinner ever,... Trent ate the greenest pesto I have ever seen and I had pasta with clams... we drank a bottle of wine and it was all 21e. awesome. Then we hiked to Riomaggiorie which is the southernmost city and we got some gelato. The walk was so relaxing and beautiful.. it was right on the cliffs at sunset it couldnt have gotten any better.
Then came yesterday. We took 4 trains, 3 buses, 1 taxi ride, and 1 flight. We missed one train and our flight was delayed an hour. We started at 6am and got to our hostel around 830pm. Yea it wasnt so fun... luckily that is our only long day of travel... now we have no more than 2 or 3 hours in a day which is nice.
Then we got to bratislava. My guide book said it had old world charm. Maybe they visited another place. Not so much charm here. Trent and I got some cheap dinner 8 US dollars for both of us and then headed to bed from pure exhaustion. We woke up to some spraying... aerosol... and it didnt stop so we were pretty much 'smoked' out of our room. We found out they were spraying for bed bugs...this guy had a bunch of bites and we looked at our sheets and there were bugs crawing all on them... SICK!!!
Long story short I payed 14e for a hostel to sleep on the floor... until about 430 when I said forget it... all og my bones were hurting... Trent decided to sleep in bed based on the fact that neither of us had any bites from the first couple of hours of sleep. SOOOO GROSSS... we learned about bed bugs in my class but they didnt bite you all over and they were as big as your fingernail. So we arent giving Bratislava more of a chance. We are going to take showers now and head to Vienna... and I better not see one more bed bug.
Love you and talk to you soon.. I think internet will be easier in Vienna.
** check your beds tonight.. jk.
