It was pretty much the start of the homeward stretch from today as we took the Euskotren to Hendaye to get our TGV to Bordeaux. Getting in at lunchtime we checked into our hotel (the Ibis Styles which meant we had pretty much stayed at every type of Accor hotel on this trip.) and then went for a walk along the river where we found a restaurant for lunch. Being back in France a 'Menu de Jour' was the pick with salad, then a chicken chorizo pasta and apple tart to finish. We continued along towards the pedestrianised old town area, taking in the the European buildings, large over the top churches and squares filled with cafes & bars. We stopped for a drink after Sean pointed out the trams with no overhead wires, apparently powered by a metal middle rail which is only electrified when the tram is on it. Back around past the twin spired Cathedral St Andre and then onto a crowded tram ourselves back to the hotel. We wandered over near the station for dinner, sharing a pizza and I indulged in a glass of Bordeaux red wine despite still not being 100%. Aussie reds are much nicer in my opinion. From here on we had no more touristy exploring left, only a train to Paris airport tomorrow.
