The overnight bus turned into four buses...dammit Turkey!! We arrived into Cappadocia at 7am and tired was definitely an understatement for how we were feeling!
We were picked up and dropped at our hostel where we jumped in the shower and got ready for our day tour of South Cappadocia which started at 9:30am. First stop on our tour was to the Castle which many different nationalities and religions had lived for thousands of years. We weren't allowed up into the Castle so it was mainly a picture stop. Our next stop we spent exploring mosque, churches, monk homes and nuns quarters from the 4th century. We did a bit of hiking at this point and the views from the top over Cappadocia were amazing, the landscape here is so different to anything we've seen before so we're definitely looking forward to the hot air ballooning which we've booked in for tomorrow morning.
Third stop on the tour we went to a series of rock formations that looked like mushroom tops. Here we took loads of photos and then visited imagination valley which gets its name from the different rock formations that resemble things like a camel, lizard, ducks kissing, etc. It was then lunchtime which was pretty exciting as it was a Turkish buffet woohoo! After lunch they took us into a pottery making place to explain the way the Turks have been making their pottery in Cappadocia overtime. This was lots of fun as I was called up to make my own vase! I quite enjoyed playing with the clay and moulding it until it looked like a certain appendage....everyone laughed so I'm glad it was entertaining even if it was slightly embarrassing!
After lunch we hit the road again to our last stop for the day at the Goreme open air museum. This museum contained various churches dating from the 10th through till the 14th century that housed 3 different saints from Cappadocia. it was interesting to see the different styles of artwork inside the cave churches and to also witness the various ways that they depicted their faith of Christianity. After the end of the tour we were wrecked so we grabbed the set menu dinner from our hotel and went to bed nice and early as we had to be up at 4:30am for our hot air balloon ride, so exciting, goodbye fear of heights... let's hope!
